According to the Washington Post, 1 million square miles of ocean were protected in the year 2015 thus far! That is amazing, although we have a lot more ocean to go. This record breaking number is all thanks to the archipelago of more than 500 islands, Palua in Oceania and their new marine reserve. This new reserve is ranked in the top 5 largest marine reserves in the entire world. It is great to see so much progress for our oceans!
